The price of DIRECTV NOW has gone up.

Consumers of AT&T TV have often complained about pricing hikes. Subscribers who were grandfathered in on DIRECTV NOW Go Big were given a price guarantee. While AT&T’s exact wording is questionable, the company has always provided a $25 discount off the current Go Big plan pricing for the length of the subscriber’s service. That agreement is still followed by AT&T today. However, it hasn’t stopped the price from rising.

DIRECTV NOW has seen a number of price hikes. For example, the Live a Little plan went from $35 to $40 in 2018 and then from $40 to $50 in 2019. The other choices, including Go Big, had equal pricing.

With the changeover from DIRECTV NOW to AT&T TV NOW, the plans have changed even further, since the original four choices have been reduced to just two: Plus and Max. There hasn’t been any change for individuals who were early subscribers. Although the price of their plan has risen, they continue to provide a discount and a channel lineup that is almost same.

AT&T TV NOW is said to be raising prices once again, and although grandfathered Go Big subscribers will keep their discounts, their monthly charge is expected to climb to at least $65 per month. PlayStation Vue vs. Grandfathered Go Big

Over the years, PlayStation Vue has failed to attract as many customers as Sony had hoped. This is the case despite delivering a solid service with a variety of features and a fair channel lineup.

Those contemplating switching from the grandfathered plan to Sling TV are well aware that they would likely lose several channels. After all, Sling TV is known for having a small channel lineup.

Live a little was $35 a month, Just Right was $50 a month, Go Big was $60 a month, and Gotta have it was $75 a month.

DIRECTV NOW, on the other hand, offers the $60 Go Big plan for only $35 per month as a way to entice early adopters to the service. This was a one-time offer pricing, but it was certainly the finest live TV streaming bargain at the time, providing access to about 118 stations.

The cost of DIRECTV NOW has increased.

The price increases have long been a problem for AT&T TV consumers. Subscribers to DIRECTV NOW Go Big who were grandfathered were offered a price guarantee. While the specific phrasing used by AT&T is debatable, the firm has always offered a $25 reduction off the current price of the Go Big plan for the duration of the subscriber’s subscription. Currently, none of the main live TV streaming providers offer as many channels as the Go Big package. Furthermore, the price difference is now negligible.

While the initial Go Big channel roster is likely to have changed since launch, if you’re content with the precise channels you have as a grandfathered client, moving may not be worth it.

You’ll save money, but you’ll almost probably lose some channels in the process. Which service allows you to retain the channels you want is the question you must ask yourself. It all boils down to the channel lineup when deciding whether or not to switch.

AT&T looks to be working on a modification that would allow grandfathered DirecTV Now consumers to switch plans without losing any of their existing savings. Subscribers have seen a lot of changes since the debut of DirecTV Now, including repeated price hikes. This option, on the other hand, would provide legacy DirecTV Now members more choice over their streaming experience.

It’s unclear if early adopter or HBO for Life members will be able to preserve their discounts when switching plans. While the HBO discount is beneficial to current HBO members, the early adopter discount offers the greatest potential for savings. This reduction was only available for DirecTV Now’s Go Big plan, and it dropped the monthly cost from $60 to $35, the same as the less expensive Live a Little plan. Although the price has increased since then, the $25 discount has remained in force for individuals who signed up for Go Big from the start.

While it’s unclear if they’ll be able to downgrade and maintain the discount for a lower cost, it’s also unclear whether they’ll be able to upgrade to the Gotta Have It plan and preserve the discount. If they are successful, the Gotta Have It strategy will provide a far superior overall package. Unlike the video loyalty credit, the early adopter discount does not need a DirecTV Now user to also have the company’s wireless cellular subscription.

While the majority of each show’s free episodes are limited to the pilot episode, WarnerMedia did state that the list of free episodes will vary over time. For the time being, folks in the United States are the only ones who can view HBO Max episodes for free.

While enabling customers to see some of its original episodes for free is a good step, it’s not the same as a traditional free trial. HBO Max used to provide a free trial, which it still does if you subscribe via YouTube TV, but it was pulled from the service last year for those who signed up directly. The opportunity to now view some episodes for free looks to be a method to give people a taste of HBO Max without having to pay for the whole experience.

Any HBO Max users who received a “integration test email” recently should ignore it since it seems to have been sent in error. HBO Max is a popular streaming service with over 40 million subscribers, and it’s just going to become bigger. Partly as a result of the introduction of a more cheap $9.99 per month plan, but also as a result of the recently announced plans to extend the streaming service’s global reach.

It might be aggravating when anything goes wrong when there are so many subscribers. While a streaming service being down or experiencing technical issues in general is a more extreme example, things may also go wrong in more mundane ways, such as sending an email by mistake.

A “Integration Test Email #1” was sent to many, if not all, HBO Max members today. The email offers no additional information except the promise that “This template is used only by integration tests.” This is an email that serves as the basis for a test, however one that should have taken place in a controlled setting rather than in production, as the email body suggests. In this case, it seems that HBO Max’s internal testing and customer email lists clashed, resulting in the internal email being sent to genuine customer email addresses.

Customers with HBO Max, of course, do not have to be worried about the email itself. It has nothing to do with them and was never intended for them. Of course, some people may disagree to the use of consumer data in this way, but that’s a different issue altogether. For the time being, HBO Max users may ignore their Integration Test Email or head to Twitter, where the issue seems to be amusing, and figure out what the Integration Test is. Not to mention whether or not the HBO Max integration test was successful.

Update 06/17: It seems that the “Integration Test Email #1” was sent to a broader audience than only existing HBO Max subscribers. The email was received by those who had previously subscribed to HBO Max, as well as individuals who had never subscribed to HBO Max but had previously used HBO, HBO Go, or HBO Now. There have even been complaints from people who have never had a membership to HBO.

As a consequence, the emailing list seems to be far larger than previously thought, and not limited to either existing or terminated HBO Max users.

HBO Max has reacted to the email, admitting that it was sent in mistake. A Tweet stating that the Integration Test email was sent to a “portion” of the streaming service’s mailing list provided confirmation. HBO Max apologized for any inconvenience this has caused.

“By accident, we sent an empty test email to a portion of our HBO Max mailing list earlier this evening. We apologize for the inconvenience, and indeed, the intern was to blame, as the jokes go. No, really. And we’re here to help them get through it.”
